Sophie Mengele earned her Master of Science in Nursing at Johns Hopkins and her nurse practitioner license at the University of Cincinnati. She practices in Santa Barbara, where she trained alongside two gynecologists — and where, every day, women tell her the things they tell no one else.

In years of women's-health practice — including a private practice in Montecito — Sophie has cared for women at every age and stage of life, and heard the same quiet questions again and again. These concerns are nearly universal, and nearly always overlooked. The questions don't change from one woman to the next — and neither should the care.

Time and again, Sophie wished she had something better to offer the women in her care — and rarely found it. The care that matters most, she saw, is too often the care taken least seriously: dismissed, rushed past, quietly made do with. She built Calla to change that — to hold the care women deserve to the standard we already expect everywhere else.

That means honest, considered essentials, each one researched and chosen with intention — care that meets you with candor instead of shame, and leaves you feeling more at home in your own body. Where the most personal care finally becomes self-care.
